About Ann and Nurturing Sleep

My work with children, babies and families begun many years ago with my NNEB (Nursery Nurse) training, and I have now clocked up over 30 years experience. Initially I worked for 12 years as a private nanny and maternity nurse, and enjoyed working with many wonderful families and traveling the world.

Eventually I married and unfortunately became very unwell, and it's this experience under pins the Emotional Well-being approach that Nurturing Sleep has become well known for. (You see - there is a silver lining to every big dark cloud!)

As I recovered I picked up my work again. I worked in nursery and primary schools, where my main role was supporting literacy, play and learning. At this time I also studied for my degree in Child and Youth studies gaining a BA with distinction. My work then shifted back to family support. I worked for a while with Sure Start and cry-sis, and trained and worked as a postnatal doula.

Nurturing Sleep was born back in 2011 as I completed my first sleep certification with Chireal Shallow at Naturally Nurturing. I followed through with my Happiest Baby training in 2012, and gained a second certification in sleep consultancy with the International Maternity and Parenting Institute in 2013. I completed the Aware Parenting Instructor course in 2015, and Hand in Hand Parenting professionals intensive course in 2016. Throughout 2017 I studied prenatal and perinatal psychology and healing with Myrna Martin, and throughout 2018 I studied prenatal and perinatal psychology with Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health (APPPAH). This recent training and certification supports the foundation of my work: identifying, understanding and healing early developmental trauma. My first peer-reviewed article was published in APPPAH's journal in Summer 2019: "Conscious Conception: Foundations of Emotional Development and Considerations for Professionals".

Nurturing Sleep has gone from strength to strength as emotional well-being and the influence of prenatal and perinatal psychology flows through my sleep work. I'm finding that increasingly more families want to understand their child's behaviors at a much deeper level!

The Nurturing Sleep 'sleep hub' is now based on Romney Marsh in Kent. After working for 35 years with families and young children, I am now moving into semi-retirement in the peace and calmness of the marsh, close to the sea, the perfect location and environment for my nurturing and emotional well-being sleep work.

Each consulting day the sleep hub is busy with sleep support chats, consultations, international Skype and FaceTime support calls. The sleep hub is also my dedicated place for further research and study as I work to further develop the effectiveness of my work and work on my professional writing projects.

Nurturing Sleep continues to grow and evolve; and due to the success of the emotional well-being approach I am now offering parenting support . My decision to do this 'just made sense' after working with many families with toddlers and pre-schoolers who improved sleep behaviours just through parents supporting their children with daytime play and emotional well-being approaches.

The Nurturing Sleep approach and support is  about so much more than just 'fixing' the obvious 'behavioural' symptoms.

It's much deeper than that.
